大学院生と小学生との研究交流イベント
「問いが見つかる 興味が深まる 小学生のための研究フェア」開催報告
2025年2月24日（月・祝）、名古屋市の栄ガスビルにて、小学3〜6年生を対象とした研究体験イベント「問いが見つかる 興味が深まる 小学生のための研究フェア」を開催しました。本イベントは、大学院生が自身の研究を小学生にわかりやすく紹介し、対話を通じてお互いに新たな気づきを得ることを目的としています。
当日は8名の大学院生がそれぞれブースを設け、1〜3名ずつの小学生に対して15分間の研究紹介を4回実施しました。紹介内容は体験型の工夫を凝らしたもので、小説のユーモア研究やmRNAワクチン、銀河や暗黒物質、児童の学習環境など多岐にわたりました。参加した19名の小学生は、事前に割り当てられた4つのブースを順に巡り、研究者との対話を楽しみました。
ブース体験のあとは、軽食を囲んだカジュアルな交流の時間が設けられ、大学院生と小学生・保護者が自由に会話を楽しむ様子が見られました。小学生からは「もっと知りたい！」「自分でも研究してみたい」といった声が多数寄せられ、研究への関心の高まりが伺えました。
また、本イベントは大学院生にとっても、自身の研究の本質を捉え直し、異分野・一般向けに伝える力を養う貴重な機会となりました。事後アンケートでは、「子どもに伝えるために内容を整理できた」「想像以上に研究に興味を持ってもらえた」といった感想が寄せられ、参加者全員が「また参加したい」と回答しました。保護者からも「大学や研究を身近に感じられる機会となった」「将来へのヒントになった」といった声が届いています。
本イベントは、名古屋大学博士課程教育推進機構の主催により、JSPS科研費（JP20K20516）の助成を受けて実施されました。今後も、大学院生の成長と社会との接点を創出する取り組みとして、継続的な開催を目指してまいります。

Research Exchange Event between Graduate Students and Elementary School Children “Finding Questions, Deepening Curiosity: A Research Fair for Elementary School Students”
On February 24, 2025 (Monday, public holiday), the event “Finding Questions, Deepening Curiosity: A Research Fair for Elementary School Students” was held at the Sakae Gas Building in Nagoya. Targeting students in grades 3 to 6, the event provided an opportunity for graduate students to explain their research in an easy-to-understand manner and engage in dialogue that fosters mutual discovery and insight.
Eight graduate students each hosted a booth and gave four 15-minute research presentations to groups of 1 to 3 elementary school students. The presentations were designed to be interactive and engaging, covering a wide range of topics including humor in novels, mRNA vaccines, galaxies and dark matter, and learning environments for children. The 19 participating students rotated through four pre-assigned booths and actively engaged with the presenters.
Following the booth sessions, participants enjoyed a relaxed lunch-style interaction with the graduate students and their guardians. Many children expressed comments such as “I want to learn more!” and “I want to do research myself!”, showing increased interest in the world of research.
For the graduate students, the event also provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the essence of their own research and to strengthen their ability to communicate with audiences from different disciplines and backgrounds. In the post-event survey, all participating graduate students indicated they would like to take part again, citing comments like “It helped me reorganize my thoughts in order to explain to children” and “I was surprised by how engaged the children were.” Guardians also gave positive feedback such as “It made university and research feel more accessible” and “It gave my child new ideas for the future.”
This event was organized by the Doctoral Education Consortium at Nagoya University and supported by a JSPS KAKENHI Grant (JP20K20516). We will continue to create opportunities for graduate students to grow through outreach and engagement with society.
