大学院は、深い学識と卓越した能力をもち、大学院修了後、研究職や専門職に就き、社会に貢献できる専門家を育成することを目的にしています。現代の専門家は、決して自分一人で仕事をするわけではありません。彼らは、専門、性別、世代、文化、宗教、国家の違いを越えて、異なる分野の専門家や人々のネットワークの中で仕事をしています。そのため、専門家が、グローバルにその力を発揮するには、自分の専門領域の深い学識と卓越した能力に加えて、関係者との協働ネットワークを創造発展させる能力が不可欠です。名古屋大学は、この能力を「PhDスキル」と呼んでいます。

PhDスキルは、大学院生が多様な専門家や人々と広く交流し、協働する中で培われます。大学院共通カリキュラムは、専門領域を超え、内外の専門家や人々と交流し協働できる実践の場を創造することを目指しています。名古屋大学は、13の大学院の専門的な教育研究と13の大学院の学生が交流するPhDスキル鍛錬の場を連動させることによって、協働ネットワークの中でリーダーシップを発揮できる研究職や専門職を育てたいと考えています。

PhDスキル

名古屋大学博士課程教育推進機構では、以下のように「PhDスキル」をまとめています。

たとえば、卓越した研究を遂行するためには、さまざまな角度から研究分野を見て分析する力、異なる分野の研究者と協働する力などが必要となるでしょう。また、専門的知識・スキルを実社会に役立てるためには、潜在的な問題を発見し解決策を提案する力、現場の人たちのニーズを聞き取る力などが重要となります。

自身の目標に合わせて、「どのスキルを伸ばすべきか」、「どのようなアクションを起こせば良いか」を考えるヒントとして、活用してください。

The aim of our graduate schools is to cultivate professionals with deep knowledge and outstanding skills who will gain research roles or expert jobs after completing graduate school, and who are able to make a contribution to society. Today’s experts do not work alone. They work within networks of experts and with people from different fields, across different specialties, genders, generations, cultures, religions and countries. For this reason, in order for experts to display their abilities globally, in addition to possessing deep knowledge and outstanding skills in their own specialty area, they must also possess the ability to create and develop collaborative networks with the right people. Nagoya University refers to this ability as “PhD skills”.

Graduate students develop PhD skills through the process of holding broad exchanges and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders. Through the graduate schools’ common curriculum, we aim to provide opportunities to practice exchange and collaboration with experts and others, both at the university and beyond, across different specialist fields. Nagoya University’s aim is to produce researchers and experts capable of displaying leadership within collaborative networks by linking opportunities for disciplinary education and research at our thirteen graduate schools to PhD skills training, through which students from all thirteen graduate schools have opportunities to meet.

PhD Skills

Please refer to the following PhD skills framework, set out by the DEC, as suggestions for thinking about “which skills I could improve” or “what I need to do” in line with your own aims.

For example, in order to carry out outstanding research, it is surely necessary to possess abilities such as being able to analyze a research field from multiple angles and collaborating with scholars from different fields. Moreover, in order to make use of specialist knowledge and skills in the real world, it is important to be able to identify latent problems, to propose solutions, and to listen to the needs of stakeholders.
