This is the Lecture 3 of "Japan’s Environmental Policies and Global Environmental Issues" lecture series.

The current COVID-19 pandemic is a serious issue closely related to many environmental problems. There are various issues such as the relationship between humans and organism, the relationship between air pollution and diseases, the response to increasing medical waste, and the relationship between global warming countermeasures and green recovery. In this lecture, the relationship between COVID-19 and related environmental problems will be organised from the perspective of the triple R framework, that is, response, recovery, and redesign. Furthermore, we will develop discussions for building a sustainable and resilient world in the future in related to these infectious diseases. Various cases, that are suitable for each region, including not only Japan but also the situation in Europe, the United States and Asia, and the response to pandemics in those countries, will be introduced in the lecture.
